NFL Draft: Thursday will be relatively quiet for Sooners

The Sooners have averaged one first-round pick a year under Bob Stoops -- including top-five picks Sam Bradford, Gerald McCoy and Trent Williams in 2010 -- but they likely won't have one selected in the first round this year.

Oklahoma isn't projected to have a player selected Thursday night in the first round of the NFL Draft.

It's the fourth time in the past five years OU won't have a player taken in the first round. The Sooners, though, have averaged one first-round pick a year under Bob Stoops, highlighted by the 2010 draft.

Two years ago, four Sooners were selected in the first round, including three of the top four overall picks.

Quarterback Sam Bradford went No. 1, later earning NFL Rookie of the Year honors with the St. Louis Rams.

Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy went third overall and is an anchor on Tampa Bay's defensive line.

Offensive tackle Trent Williams was the fourth overall pick by Washington. Williams and former OU offensive linemen Jammal Brown and Chris Chester are three ex-Sooners that will be responsible for protecting Heisman quarterback Robert Griffin III.

OU's memorable 2010 draft also included tight end Jermaine Gresham, a key offensive weapon for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Looking beyond first-round picks, if OU has at least six players selected this weekend as projected the Sooners could have 35 or more players make 2012 NFL rosters.
