NORMAN — Freshman slugger Lauren Chamberlain hit two home runs Wednesday night, powering No. 5-ranked Oklahoma to a 7-1 rout of Oklahoma State in Big 12 softball at Marita Hynes Field.
Chamberlain's 21st and 22nd homers set a single-season school record. She has six multi-homer games this season.
“I wasn't really worried about the record, but I feel honored to be in the same ballpark as the players that have had the record,” Chamberlain said. “I was seeing pitches well.”
Erica Sampson added a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning as a crowd of 1,074 watched. Sampson replaced injured outfielder Brittany Williams and went deep during her first at bat of the game.
Oklahoma (39-7 overall, 14-4 Big 12) scored in every inning but the second and sixth. Oklahoma State (23-19, 6-9) scored its only run in the fifth inning, but the Sooners were in control by then.
Keilani Ricketts was the Sooners' starting pitcher, and she was solid through five innings. She gave up the run on four hits, a walk and seven strikeouts.
Ari Morrison had two of the Cowgirls' six hits.
OU plays Central Arkansas at 1 p.m. Saturday in Conway, Ark. OSU will host No. 25 Baylor for a three-game, Big 12 series this weekend. The opener is 7 p.m. Friday in Stillwater.
