RedHawks 11, Round Rock 5
The RedHawks opened a four-game set against the Express by pounding out 14 hits Thursday night, including three home runs and three doubles. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak by Round Rock, the Texas Rangers' farm team.
AT THE PLATE
The RedHawks sent 11 batters to the plate in an eight-run third inning, highlighted by designated hitter Mike Hessman's grand slam. It was Hessman's 331st career home run in the minor leagues, the most of any active player in the minors.
Left fielder Fernando Martinez hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, and right fielder Brad Snyder smacked a solo homer in the fifth for the RedHawks. Both players had three hits in the game.
Martinez's two RBIs Thursday night gives him a team-leading 17 on the season. First baseman Scott Moore also delivered a two-run single in the third inning. Moore has 15 RBIs on the season and is hitting .396.
ON THE MOUND
Henry Sosa improved to 2-0 on the season for Oklahoma City, going 62/3 innings and giving up five earned runs. Round Rock starter Michael Kirkman was touched for seven earned runs in 21/3 innings. ... Round Rock reliever Ben Snyder pitched to his brother, the RedHawks' Brad Snyder, for the first time since an intrasquad game in high school. Brad singled in the seventh-inning sibling matchup.
Right-hander Aneury Rodriguez (1-2, 5.89) will take the mound for the RedHawks on Friday against Round Rock lefty Martin Perez (1-2, 4.03) in the second game of the series at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
