Wayland, Angie, Paul, Evan and Jackson Smith have made the Oklahoma City marathon a family affair.
For the second straight year, the family will run as a relay team.
“We've always lived here, and we just want to contribute,” Wayland Smith said. “It feels like we can help the city, give back a little bit and participate in the healing.”
The parents — Wayland and Angie — will run the first and last legs of 6.2 miles each. Jackson, the youngest son at 16 and a high school athlete at Deer Creek, takes the middle and longest leg of 7.6 miles.
The two older sons, Paul and Evan, who Wayland jokingly says are “lazy” run the two 3.1 mile legs.
This marathon will be particularly memorable for the family because Evan is getting married on Saturday, the day before the race.
