Edge Art Now 2012, a show featuring artists who are pushing the boundaries of new and mixed media in their process will open May 11 at the Individual Artists of Oklahoma gallery, 706 W Sheridan. Opening reception is 6 to 9 p.m. The individual exhibitions will remain on display through June 1.
To mark the 21st year of this annual exhibition, the Visual Arts Committee of IAO selected Michael Freed to be the juror of this year's exhibition. More than two decades ago, Michael Freed was the director of IAO. At that time, Oklahoma artist and supporter of the arts, Michi Susan, approached him with the idea of producing a show that would feature new media, defined as art created using advances in technology, or mixed media art in an effort to expand the horizon for artists. It was under Freed's tenure at IAO that the original mixed media competition was started with the support of Michi Susan.
Michael Freed, a native Oklahoman, is now an artist living in Santa Fe, N.M. Having worked in the gallery business for over 12 years, his attention for the past five years has been focused on his own studio work. He shows regularly in Massachusetts, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas.
