Oklahoma colleges and universities gear up for commencement ceremonies

As colleges and universities statewide wrap up their spring semesters, graduating students are gearing up for commencement ceremonies set in coming weeks.
Gov. Mary Fallin will speak at Oklahoma City University's graduation ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center at NW 27 and Florida Avenue. Fallin, the first woman elected governor of Oklahoma, will receive an honorary doctorate of public administration from OCU.
Oklahoma State University will hold three commencement ceremonies for undergraduate students Saturday at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater. A ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. for students in the College of Arts and Science and the College of Human Science; a second ceremony begins at 1 p.m. for the College of Education and the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology, and a third will take place at 4 p.m. for the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the Spears School of Business.
The OSU Center for Veterinary Health Sciences will hold its commencement at 7 p.m. Saturday at Gallagher-Iba Arena, and OSU's Graduate College will hold its ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Commencement speakers will be former XTO Energy President Vaughn O. Vennerberg and education innovator Ken Robinson. Vennerberg will speak at the first undergraduate ceremony and Robinson will speak at the second and third ceremonies.
The University of Oklahoma will hold its commencement at 7 p.m. May 11 at Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The commencement speaker will be Brown University President Ruth J. Simmons. A fireworks display will cap the event. Graduates will be recognized at convocation ceremonies May 12. Those ceremonies will be held by individual colleges throughout the day at several locations at the Norman campus. Colleges in the OU Health Sciences Center will hold convocations at several locations in Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma State University — Oklahoma City will hold its commencement at 7 p.m. May 14 at the Oklahoma State Fair Arena. The ceremony will feature remarks from commencement speaker J. Doug Pruitt, a 1966 graduate of OSU-OKC and chairman of Tucson-based Sundt Construction Services.
