Oklahoma City police said Monday they are looking for a man who impersonated a security officer while trying to sexually assault a woman at Lake Hefner.

The woman called police shortly after midnight April 29 to report the incident at Hobie Point. According to a police report released Monday, the woman and her boyfriend drove to the lake while she was on a break from work. About 11:30 p.m. a car drove by, and five or 10 minutes later, a man holding a spotlight approached the couple's car.

The man identified himself as “lake security.” He told the couple the lake closes at 11 p.m. and he would have to have them arrested. The man asked the woman's boyfriend to stay in the car and told the woman to follow him to his vehicle. He then made sexually suggestive comments and tried to force the woman into his vehicle.

The woman was able to escape and ran back to her car, driving away from the area with her boyfriend before calling police.

The suspect was described as a white man in his mid-20s, 6 feet tall, about 250 pounds with a stubbly beard. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants. His vehicle was a small, four-door car, possibly a Honda or some other import model.

Oklahoma City police patrol the lake. There is no separate lake security.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 235-7300. Callers can remain anonymous.
