High-style spring and summer shoes are high in wearability

This season's shoes are fun, colorful and inherently more wearable than ever, say several Oklahoma City area shoe retailers.

Kick off your heels and slip on something more comfortable. This spring and summer's shoes are sexy, revealing and, yes, wearable!

Whether you want to add inches to your physique with super-high platform heels and wedges, or go low-profile in youthful ballet flats, this season, there really is a shoe for everyone.

Gracing the feet of Oklahoma's most stylish women, you'll see throwback styles from the '70s (transparent acrylic disco heels, anyone?), the '80s (jellies!), the '90s (chunky heels) and brand-new variations of classic favorites such as the espadrille wedge updated with platforms, bright colors, unusual materials, color-blocked heels and native-inspired woven designs.

We visited some of the metro area's most popular locally owned shoe retailers to find out what's hot — and what's not — in spring and summer styles.

At Pink Sugar, 1389 E 15, Suite 120, in Edmond, owner Kelsie Petree carries a variety of fun, high-end shoes that feature lots of color and embellishments.

She's constantly searching the fashion markets for shoes that offer not only high style but high comfort.

“The hardest thing at market is that it's hard to find a comfortable shoe that's cute,” she said.

The good news is that most of today's most popular styles are inherently more comfortable than they could be. Wedges and platforms offer far more stability and wearability than the stiletto heels of yesteryear.

And colorful flats are big this season, so Petree offers dozens of sandal styles that won't strain your style.

She looks for a variety of low- and high-heeled shoes and says mid-height heels are the hardest to find, even though they're in high demand.

At Heirloom Shoe, 4415 N Western, owner Leigh Standerfer loves to offer her customers high-end, super-soft leather shoes.
