OU football: Sooners get commitment from Texas QB Cody Thomas

by Ryan Aber Published: May 17, 2012

After Max Browne committed to USC in April. Oklahoma set its sights on four-star quarterback Cody Thomas of Colleyville (Texas) Heritage.

Thomas’ commitment to the Sooners became public Thursday after he received an offer from OU earlier in the week. Thomas’ father, Pete Thomas, confirmed the commitment to

Pete Thomas told the site his son had committed to OU quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel on Tuesday but had kept it quiet so he could inform the other teams that were recruiting him. Thomas’ other offers included Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Oregon and TCU.

Thomas (6-foot-5, 220 pounds) could have a decision to make even after he signs. Thomas is highly touted baseball prospect who figured to be drafted next summer.

The Sooners have recent history losing a quarterback to the draft, as Broken Arrow’s Archie Bradley chose to sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks after being picked No. 7 overall last year.

Brown becomes the seventh commitment for 2013 class for the Sooners and the third from Texas, joining defensive end Matt Dimon and running back Keith Ford.

Thomas threw for 3,496 yards, 36 touchdowns and 15 interceptions as a junior. Thomas’ commitment makes it likely Sequoyah-Tahlequah quarterback Brayden Scott, the No. 2 player on The Oklahoman’s Super 30 list, will go elsewhere.
