Three-star safety Ahmad Thomas of Miami, Fla., became Oklahoma's eighth verbal commitment for its class of 2013 on Tuesday, Rivals.com reported.

Thomas, of Miami (Fla.) Central, called defensive coordinator Mike Stoops to pledge himself to the Sooners, he told the website.

Thomas (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) was offered a scholarship just last week and committed despite never having visiting OU's campus. He said he'll visit Norman for the first time this summer.

He is the second defensive back to commit for 2013, joining Tulsa East Central's Stanvon Taylor.

Thomas made 82 tackles and recorded one interception and one sack as a junior. He also received offers from 12 other schools, including Auburn, Florida State, Notre Dame and West Virginia.
