Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame golfer Doug Tewell and former touring pro Pat Bates will conduct free two-hour junior golf clinics in 11 small communities in Oklahoma with a caravan in the first half of June.
Tewell is an Oklahoma State product and a 12-time winner on the PGA and Champions tours, which included winning major championships at the 2000 Senior PGA and 2001 Tradition.
Bates is the men's golf coach at Central Oklahoma and a five-time winner on the Nationwide Tour.
The purpose of the caravan is to introduce kids (ages 8-17) to golf in cooperation with local public golf courses. Each participant will be given a TewellTime T-shirt, and 10 US Kids 7-irons and 10 putters will be donated to each local course.
Kids who come back to the course wearing the T-shirt will be able to check out the clubs and hit a free bucket of balls throughout the summer.
The caravan schedule is as follows: June 2 – Lakeside Golf Course in Ardmore, 9 a.m.; June 4 – Adams Park Golf Course in Bartlesville, 9 a.m.; June 5 – Choctaw Creek Golf Course, 9 a.m.; June 7 – Elk City Golf and Country Club, 9 a.m.; June 7 – Riverside Golf Course in Clinton, 2 p.m.; June 11 – Kingfisher Golf Club, 9 a.m.; June 11 – Meadowlake Golf Club in Enid, 2 p.m.; June 12 – River Bend Golf Club in Chickasha, 9 a.m.; June 12 – Duncan Elks Golf and Country Club, 2 p.m.; June 13 and 14 – Lew Wentz Memorial Golf Course in Ponca City, 9 a.m.; June 14 – Lakeside Golf Course in Stillwater, 2 p.m.
