NORMAN — Courtney Gardner says he’ll be a Sooner this fall after all, but his athletic director said it’s not official just yet.
Gardner, who signed with Oklahoma in February but still had academic issues to work out before he could enroll, tweeted Tuesday that he would “be in Norman in July.”
Later on Twitter, Gardner was asked if the news was official, and he responded, “official for sure.”
But Sierra Community College (Roseville, Calif.) athletic director Tom Gang told The Oklahoman that Gardner is close, but not there just yet.
“He got the bulk of his work done this last spring,” Gang said. “He’s close.”
He took six classes during the spring semester, and said last week in a telephone interview that he was taking three more this summer.
“I think what he’s trying to say (on Twitter) is, ‘I’ve got all the big stuff done,’” Gang said. “I know he’s still got to pass an English and a math, and he picked up one more class this summer.
“We’re still on him and the road’s not over yet.”
