2012 Olympics: OU thrower Tia Brooks makes the U.S. Olympic Team

Brooks, a junior, qualified in the shot put. She is the second female track and field athlete in OU history to make Olympics.

EUGENE, Ore. — Tia Brooks of Oklahoma has made the U.S. track and field team for the 2012 Olympics in London.

The Sooner junior qualified Friday during the U.S. Trials, finishing third in the shot put. Brooks threw 60-feet, 2-inches on her second attempt, becoming the second female track and field athlete in OU history to make the Olympics. Laverne Jones-Ferrette was a two-time Olympic sprinter for the U.S. Virgin Islands. She graduated from OU in 2003.
