Rain relief could be on the way

After a sunny, hot Sunday, there's a 40 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms Sunday night.

The sun and heat could give way to stormy skies early this week, according to the National Weather Service. There is a 20 to 40 percent chance showers could hit Oklahoma City Sunday, while forecasters predict a 30 percent chance of rain Monday and Tuesday.

Here's a look at the weather ahead:

Sunday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 97. East wind around 7 mph.

Sunday night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable.

Monday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 88. Northeast wind 6 to 10 mph.

Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. North northeast wind around 10 mph.

Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Northeast wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 70.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 91.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 69.
