— A 27-year-old Hugo man charged with slaying a 76-year-old woman pleaded no contest and received a life sentence with the possibility of parole, court officials said Tuesday.

Kelvin Knight entered the plea Monday in Choctaw County District Court. He was scheduled for trial Aug. 13, court records show.

Willie Bell Gill, of Hugo, was found stabbed to death June 16, 2011, in her ransacked home in rural Choctaw County. A medical examiner's report indicates Gill died either late June 13 or early June 14.

Investigators said Knight killed Gill after breaking into her home to steal vintage money and coins and a set of gold-plated flatware. Knight was seen by several witnesses with a briefcase full of old coins, $2 and $20 bills, Mexican money, flatware and two women's watches, an arrest affidavit stated.

After the stabbing, Knight threatened his girlfriend with a knife, authorities said. Knight was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with that incident. The charge was dropped in December, court records show. has disabled the comments for this article.
