DALLAS — Dayne Crist and Charlie Weis are a duo like Tom and Jerry, Rocky and Bullwinkle, SpongeBob and his square pants — where you find one, you will surely find the other. So it was no surprise that after Crist was benched by his former coach, Notre Dame's Brian Kelly, that the quarterback left the Irish for Kansas, where he teamed up again with Weis.
Crist talked with The Oklahoman about his new home, Weis and why his team shouldn't be ranked at the bottom of the Big 12.
Q: What are some of the major differences between South Bend and Lawrence?
There's a lot. It's a much bigger area. School size we're talking a difference of 8,000 kids to 20,000 kids. A lot more people. But the people are just as warm, very receptive to me transferring, and I've been fortunate to have them help in the transition.
Has it been hard to learn the new team and the new area?
Initially it's a little intimidating. It all happened so quickly that you just got to be yourself and do everything you can to show the guys that you have 100 percent bought in and are just one of the guys.
Preseason you guys were listed at the bottom of the Big 12. Why do you think you guys shouldn't be there?
