The pastor of a Tulsa church was shot at his house early Tuesday in what may have been a targeted attack, Tulsa police said.

Someone kicked in the front door of the Rev. Kenneth Brooks' home in the 2700 block of North Denver Avenue shortly before 2 a.m., shot him point-blank in the middle of the chest and then fled, Cpl. Mark Shelton said.

Brooks, pastor at City of Refuge International Ministries, 1023 N. Utica Ave., was taken to a hospital and appeared likely to survive, Shelton said.

The pastor told police that he believed he was targeted because a teenage girl had just come to his door "seeking some kind of help, whether it was financial or advice," Shelton said.
