Even when he signed, Piedmont catcher Cole Davis wasn't sure where he would head for college.
He double-signed with Redlands and Kansas State, balancing the ability to leave early to begin his pro career if he went the junior college route with competing in the Big 12 from the get-go.
In the end, the Big 12 won out.
“It's a better opportunity for me,” Davis said of Kansas State. “I've wanted all along to play in the Big 12, SEC or another Division I conference, so why not do it my freshman year instead of waiting two years?”
Davis has been a catcher most of his career but started at third base at Piedmont when he was younger before moving back to his natural position.
“I love controlling the game,” Davis said. “I love being involved in every single play.”
Though when he signed, he didn't know where he was going to wind up, it was still a big moment.
“It was amazing to know that everything that I've been doing was worth something,” Davis said. “I just appreciate the opportunity I've been given.”
