The Muscogee Creek Indian Freedmen Band’s (MCIFB) next meeting will be 1 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Oklahoma City campus of Langston University, 4205 N Lincoln Blvd.
Discussions will focus on the dynamics that led up to pursuing Federal recognition as an American Indian Tribe. An update will be given on the status of the MCIFB’s petition for Federal recognition, filed on Jan. 25, 2012. Indian Freedmen Band
This will be your opportunity to ask questions about the seven mandatory criteria for federal recognition and why the MCIF meet the criteria. The meeting is free of charge, and it is open to the general public.
The MCIFB is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. The association’s mission is to promote self-sufficiency, and to implement educational programs that depict the accurate history of the African-Creek Indian Freedmen; to educate members and the public regarding the African Creeks political rights as citizens of the Creek Nation, defined by the Creek Treaty of 1866(Article 2).
