OCU alumna wins Miss Black International title
Darbi Williams, the reigning Miss Black Oklahoma and recent nursing alumna of Oklahoma City University, won the Miss Black International pageant Aug. 4 in Atlanta.
Williams, a Clara Luper scholar, won the Interview Award and the Talent Award for her piano performance during the contest.
Her platform is Living Protected: HIV/AIDS Awareness. It focuses on college-aged African American females. She is currently working on an HIV/AIDS awareness week event at Oklahoma City University with Brandi Gibson, director of university counseling, for the fall semester.
Williams has already made two appearances including meeting the Surgeon General of the United States and will be making various appearances nationwide during the year.
“First and foremost, I thank God for everything that has happened in my life and where He has brought me thus far,” Williams said. “I'm excited to begin my reign as Miss Black International and to continue to spread awareness to my community and country.”
Sheray Franklin, the 2010 Miss Black OCU and Miss Black Oklahoma USA, also competed in the international pageant.
