1. R.W. McQuarters, CB/WR, 1995
A versatile athlete who saw the field on offense, defense and special teams, McQuarters was the best player on the 1995 team. His 645 kick return yards rank sixth in school history.
2. John Corker, LB, 1976
OSU's all-time leading tackler had a sensational rookie campaign, posting 111 tackles and five forced fumbles.
3. Mike Gundy, QB, 1986
The current Cowboy coach has experienced what Wes Lunt is about to — being a true freshman starting quarterback. His 1,525 passing yards is the 19th-best total in school history. He added eight touchdown passes and five interceptions.
4. Shaun Lewis, LB, 2010
A freshman All-American in 2010, Lewis was a turnover machine, recording three interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He also tallied 58 tackles.
5. Russell Okung, OL, 2006
The eventual top-10 draft pick started the final eight games of his freshman season, helping the Cowboys' offense to its then-fourth-best scoring season ever.
Honorable mention: Josh Fields, QB, 2001
Fields' entire freshman season is not worthy of making this list. But he is greatly responsible for one of the greatest moments in OSU history — coming off the bench to toss the game-winning touchdown to Rashaun Woods in the final minute to clinch the Cowboys' stunning upset victory over Oklahoma in Norman in 2001.
