— More than 30 restaurants will serve samples from their menus at the annual Taste of Norman event, set for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the University of Oklahoma Mosier Indoor Facility, 395 E Lindsey St.

Tickets are $15 and are good for 10 samples. Children younger than 5 eat free.

The tasting party raises money for music programs at Norman High and Norman North High School and is held each year just before the football game that pits the two schools against each other at Owen Field.

Last year's event raised more than $25,000, accounting for about one-third of each school's music program budget, school officials said.

The funds help supplement budget amounts from the school sites and help provide more opportunities to the students, said Brad Benson, Norman Public Schools fine arts director.

Norman High Band Director Jim Meiller said Taste of Norman proceeds pay for basic needs such as fuel, music, instruments, audio equipment, uniforms and software, as well as more specialized needs such as music clinics, awards and camps.

Some of the participating restaurants this year include Brothers, The Mont, Legends, Penny Hill, Victoria's Pasta, Bison Witches, 180 Meridian Grill, Pita Pit, Sandro's Pizza and Pasta, Sooner Legends and Taste of India.

Tickets may be bought from any high school music student, at the main office at either high school, the district office at 131 S Flood Ave., or Republic Bank, 401 W Main St. Also sponsoring the event is Mark Heitz Auto Family.
