The University of Oklahoma and Fox Sports will announce Wednesday a partnership of Sooner Sports TV, an agreement that will place more than 1,000 hours annually of OU athletic programming on Fox Sports’ platforms.

The agreement in effect already has been launched – an OU-Florida A&M pregame show was aired Saturday.

The Sooner programming will air on Fox Sports Oklahoma/Fox Sports Southwest, Fox College Sports and Fox Sports Plus.

A schedule of programming can be found on soonersports.com. Next week, for example, Fox Sports Oklahoma will air the OU-New Mexico volleyball game at 9 a.m. Sunday on tape delay, Bob Stoops’ press conference at noon Monday, the OU-Kansas State volleyball game live at 7 p.m. Wednesday, the OU-Baylor soccer game live at 7 p.m. Friday and an OU-Kansas State pregame show at 10 a.m. Saturday.

An OU source said the Sooners “had a chance to launch a 24/7 channel,” similar to the Longhorn Network. But OU did not have a $300 million offer from ESPN, and the Longhorn Network has had major distribution problems in its year of existence.

“We thought the opportunity for wider distribution and fresh programming was a better approach for us,” the OU source said. “If you have a 24/7 channel, you’re talking about creating roughly 8,800 hours of programming a year. That’s a great deal of programming. We feel good about the programming we have available to us.”

Fox Sports’ channels are available via satellite, meaning OU fans outside the region would have access to the programming.
