Oklahoma football: Sooners' Lane Johnson says OU approaching K-State like Big 12 title game

Lane Johnson was an all-state honorable mention selection at quarterback in high school. Now, the 6-foot-7, 303 pound offensive lineman is gearing up to face Kansas State and their not-so-small quarterback Collin Klein. Johnson joked this week that if he still played quarterback, he'd be similar to OU's Blake Bell.

I wish I'd get the ball sometimes to show what I can do. I don't know that I'd have the endurance I used to. But I think I could still run it for sure.

This extra week of practice helped us get a jump on K-State, get used to their defense, their looks, what they're doing. It gives us an advantage going into this week.

They're not going go to mess up on their gaps. They come full speed every play. You can't take them lightly at all.

It takes a few games to get back into game rhythm. So I think with each week we're going to get better. We're kind of getting into a rhythm with timing as far as the quarterback, receivers and linemen, just getting used to picking up different blitzes and stuff like that.

Coach Stoops emphasized making less mental mistakes and focusing on the job and not worrying about outside distractions. Even Landry stepped up and was vocal about it, knowing we've got to pick ourselves up and get better.

Sometimes we have a bad start like against Florida A&M and pick it up in the second half. A quick start definitely helps us.

This is our first big game, our first real test. Yeah, we're approaching it like a Big 12 championship game. We know K-State's a good team. Last year I think we kind of left them with a bad taste in their mouth. I think they're going to be hungry when they come in.
