Oklahoma football: Bob Stoops pleased with leadership

In the end, there is no question in Bob Stoops' mind what kind of on-field leadership the Oklahoma football team has.

“I am pleased with it,” Stoops said during his Monday news conference. “I think our guys have worked hard, and I thought they played hard the other night.”

Senior quarterback Landry Jones took the podium after Stoops, and was asked if younger players look up to him.

“I think they're watching me some, just being the leader on this team,” Jones said. “I don't know if ‘look up to me' is necessarily the right word or anything like that, but I guess they're looking to me just to kind of see where we're going with this offense and find out what we're going to be.”

One of the members of the Pac-10 officiating crew that worked Oklahoma's controversial 2006 loss at Oregon — umpire Dennis Angel — is currently working as one of the NFL's replacement officials.

Angel was not part of the crew in Seattle on Monday, when the Seahawks beat Green Bay 14-12 on a controversial touchdown pass as time expired. He was in Indianapolis for Week 3, working the Colts' 22-17 loss to Jacksonville.

Oklahoma junior center Gabe Ikard, on improvements needed: “It all starts up front, the offensive and defensive lines. I take full responsibility as captain of the line to get ourselves some more reps and get ourselves better technique in this bye week and get ready for (Texas) Tech.”
