DEL CITY — People who want to dispose of unwanted prescription medication now have an option in the form of a drop box at the Del City Police Department.
The box was installed at police headquarters at 4517 SE 29 by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control. The bureau is installing the drop boxes in every county in the state.
The goal is to keep prescription medication out of the hands of children and drug addicts.
“Prescription drug abuse is a growing epidemic in Oklahoma,” bureau spokesman Mark Woodward said.
“Old expired medications left in the home can be targeted by users. Teenagers also target their parents' current or expired prescription drugs to abuse, trade or sell in order to obtain alcohol, marijuana or other drugs.”
