EDMOND — Edmond Electric, Edmond Public Works and Edmond Water Resources will hold an open house Oct. 11 in recognition of National Public Power Week, which runs seven days, starting Saturday.
Children's safety demonstrations, bucket truck rides, backhoe bowling and linemen rescue demonstrations will be part of this year's event at Cross Timbers Public Service Center.
Free T-shirts and refreshments will be offered. Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority will serve hamburgers and hot dogs while supplies last.
About 1,200 people attended last year's open house. This year's open house is from 4 to 7 p.m. just east of Interstate 35 on Covell Road.
Edmond Electric and more than 2,000 other electric utilities will celebrate Public Power Week.
“Public Power Week is a chance for Edmond Electric to articulate why the public power formula works in Edmond,” said Glenn Fisher, Edmond Electric director. “We are absolutely dedicated to providing top-notch services and the lowest rate possible.”
Edmond Electric was created in 1908. Edmond's Electric system has a typical structure with power being provided from Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority.
“We are proud to have served Edmond for 104 years,” Fisher said. “For us, the hard work is rewarding since our customers are our neighbors and friends.”
