Regarding “Lankford: Obama's order against human trafficking falls short” (News, Sept. 26): President Obama's executive order to prevent U.S. tax dollars being used to pay contractors who enslave human beings is right and just. U.S. Rep. James Lankford, R-Oklahoma City, co-authored legislation addressing human trafficking, legislation that is still making its way through Congress. Most people would agree that the present Congress has passed precious little of substance. We're entering into interim budget measures, for example, because our lawmakers are unable to put the people first and do our business.

Lankford's section of the defense bill concerning human trafficking will provide legal standing to pursue these slavers if and when it passes Congress. Obama's executive order is addressing the situation until then.
