Construction has started on Oklahoma State's new tennis center, which will be located north of Boone Pickens Stadium at the intersection of McElroy and Washington. The Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center will be a 50,000-square foot indoor facility that will house six courts, coaches' offices, locker rooms and sports medicine area. A dozen courts, with lighting, will be outside the facility. The Greenwoods are OSU graduates whose monetary gift will be put toward the project.
ELLENBERG PRESEASON BIG 12
Aaryn Ellenberg of Oklahoma was selected by coaches for the preseason All-Big 12 Women's Basketball Team. She was joined on the first team by Brittney Griner and Odyssey Sims of defending national champion Baylor; Chelsea Poppens of Iowa State; and Angel Goodrich of Kansas. Goodrich was a two-time Oklahoman Super 5 player from Tahlequah-Sequoyah High School.
Another Sooner, Whitney Hand was named to the honorable mention team.
NUGENT-HOPKINS SCORES WINNER
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, a candidate for NHL Rookie of the Year last season with the Edmonton Oilers, scored the only goal in a three-man shoot-out following the Oklahoma City Barons' 1-1 intrasquad scrimmage tie Wednesday afternoon at the Cox Convention Center.
Nugent-Hopkins, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 draft, is playing with the Barons during the NHL lockout.
Barons coach Todd Nelson divided 34 players in camp into blue and white teams. The scrimmage lasted two periods with a running clock. Dane Byers scored the white team regulation goal. Taylor Fedun, who missed all last season with a broken leg, score the blue team's goal.
Oklahoma City will host the Houston Aeros in exhibition games at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Cox Center.
Lawton Speedway has rescheduled its 23rd annual Winter Nationals dirt car races for Friday and Saturday nights. The races were originally scheduled for last weekend but were rained out. Drivers can pre-register Thursday and Friday. All five of Lawton Speedway's classes — championship sprints, USA modifieds, USA limited modifieds, factory stocks and mini stocks — are scheduled to race each night. COACHES CLINIC SET
The Oklahoma State wrestling program has scheduled a coaches clinic from Oct. 12-14 at Gallagher-Iba Arena. Seminar topics include speed, strength and conditioning; freestyle and Greco program development; preparing students beyond athletics; and youth development. Instructors include Cowboys coach John Smith, Eric Guerrero, Zack Esposito, Kenny Monday, Coleman Scott and Obe Blanc.

THREE TIED FOR FIRST
Two players from Texas and one for Georgia were tied for first place after the opening round of the 2012 OK Kids Korral Championship at the Belmar Golf Club in Norman. Luke Main of Austin, Randy Lowry of Houston and Billy Shida of Duluth, Ga., each shot 6-under-par 64. They had a one-stroke lead over Travis Woolf of Fort Worth, Mark Stevens of Concord, N.H., and Christopher Brown of Dallas. Trent Whitekiller of Sallisaw was the top Oklahoma golfer in the first round; he was in a six-way tie for 10th with a 3-under 67.
The tournament continues at 8 a.m. Thursday.
