6 Degrees of Bacon, Hold the Kevin
Downtown OKC Inc. will host 6 Degrees of Bacon, sponsored by COOP Ale Works and the Oklahoma Pork Council from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 18 in the enclosed parking garage at 1115 N Harvey.
Midtown restaurants will gather to provide bacon lovers with a sampling of bacon-inspired dishes. There will also be a bacon art show and silent auction, wine-tasting, COOP beer-tasting, cash bar for cocktails, music by DJ D-Lo and a raffle for bacon-flavored gifts.
The event is a fundraiser for the Midtown Association. Cost is $20 in advance and $30 at the door. For tickets, call 235-3500 or drop by 211 N Robinson, Suite 225, in Leadership Square.
Get your Grilled Cheese On
Science Museum Oklahoma, 2100 NE 52, has announced a call for entries for its Mom's Classic Grilled Cheese Challenge to be held live at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 19.
Shoot and record yourself or someone making your famous grilled cheese sandwich. All video entries must be received by noon Friday. Video entries can be loaded to SMO's Facebook page and or delivered to the museum.
The top 10 entries will be selected based on creativity, visual appeal and execution. These 10 grilled cheese chefs will compete live in front of six celebrity judges. Winner will have their grilled cheese sandwich featured on the menu in SMO's Pavlov's Café.

Barbecue Shootout set for big game
DALLAS — Main Street Garden and Downtown Dallas will host the Second Annual Texas Oklahoma Red River Barbecue Shootout on Thursday and Friday.
Four pitmasters from Oklahoma and four pitmasters from Texas will compete for the 2012 Champion title and a $1,000 prize in the two-round contest:
Oklahoma pitmasters include: Robby Corcoran Burn Co. BBQ in Tulsa; Russ Garrett, The Smokin' Okie of Coach's in Oklahoma City; Terel McNac of Steve's Rib in Edmond; and Bill Ritter of Mud Creek BBQ in Ringling. Texas pitmasters include: Cliff Payne (2011 Event Champion) of Cousin's in Fort Worth; Kelly Duncan Big Daddy's in Lavon; Lance Kirkpatrick of Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew in Austin, Texas; the Rev. Jeremiah McKenzie of Baby J's BBQ & Fish in Palestine. Texas.
Starting Thursday, pitmasters will cook St. Louis-style pork ribs and sauces all day in Downtown's Main Street Garden, corner of St. Paul and Main Street, for a 7 p.m. private judging by a panel of food experts, sports industry members and community leaders. Two finalists, one from Oklahoma and one from Texas will cook their winning recipes all day, to be sold at The Texas-Oklahoma Red River Barbecue Shootout Celebration in Main Street Garden from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday.
