LAWTON — A Lawton woman has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of her 20-month-old son.

Ashley Wright entered the plea Monday and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. She had been charged with first-degree murder in the January 2011 death of her son, Timothy Long.

Authorities say Wright initially told police that her 2-year-old daughter hit the child in the head with a hammer.

Wright's attorney, Don Gutteridge, tells a local newspaper that Wright said she did not intend to kill her son. In a statement to the court, Wright said she dropped Timothy onto a tile floor and struck him several times.

Prosecutors say they're satisfied with the plea bargain, noting that the 24-year-old Wright will likely be in her 50s before she's released.
