Thursday, Oct. 4, was a very special day for members of RSVP of Central Oklahoma, a nonprofit organization linking volunteers age 55 and older with essential community needs throughout central Oklahoma since 1973.
More than 350 people attended RSVP’s 39th Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, held in the Christian Life Center at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.
The luncheon honored members of RSVP, senior volunteers who unselfishly lend their time and talents to more than 200 local organizations. The theme of the day was “Never Too Old to Play”, with entertainment provided by The Sweet Adelines Chorus and guest speaker, humorist Lyn Hester.
In the past year, over 1,000 RSVP members donated 214,812 hours of volunteer service to help make a difference in the lives of Oklahoma County residents. RSVP volunteer members are involved in hundreds of capacities in our communities … tutoring youth & adults, preparing and delivering meals to the homebound, serving as museum docents and tour guides, driving the elderly to medical appointments, working with local law enforcement agencies, providing crisis intervention assistance and much, much more.
RSVP recognized several members who were present for their lengthy service to the community through RSVP. Congratulations to Arline Powell for 25 years of service to the community as members of RSVP and Jessie Jordan for 35 years with RSVP.
