TV writer Melissa Hayer chatted with readers about the new crop of fall shows and whether some will stick around for a second season. Below is an unedited transcript of the chat.

NewsOK 1:28 p.m. Hey everyone. We're going to get started at 2 p.m., but you can start submitting your questions now.
Megan J. 1:58 p.m. What is your all-time favorite show? Do you see any promising shows that could ever surpass it?
Melissa Hayer 2:01 p.m. I don't think I can choose just one all-time favorite show, but a few at the top of my list right off the bat would be "Lost," "The X-Files," "The Andy Griffith Show," "Dexter," "Friends."
Cindy 2:01 p.m. I think this is a pretty decent fall season. Revolution and elementary have stood out. Which has the best chance to survive? Also are the reality shows here to stay? They are starting to bore me a bit. Thanks
Melissa Hayer 2:06 p.m. I think it's been a pretty decent fall season as well. I like "Revolution" and "Elementary," too, but I also enjoy "Arrow" and "Nashville." Those four should survive.

I don't think the amount of reality shows will remain the same - there seems to be a saturation factor with them, especially with the singing competition shows, although I'm a "Voice" fan.
Jimmy H. 2:08 p.m. Are there any actors or actresses you would like to see return to TV? I had forgotten Denzel Washington was in St. Elsewhere. It would be difficult to imagine him returning to TV.
Melissa Hayer 2:10 p.m. That's a good question. TV has become a popular place to see movie stars these days, for example, Glenn Close is in "Damages," Jeff Daniels is in "The Newsroom," Kevin Bacon will be in "The Following," so anything's possible.
Tiffany 2:15 p.m. RE: Jimmy - I would like to see Neve Campbell return to TV. I think she could be a strong female lead for a new series.
Dora M. 2:16 p.m. I am so excited about "Covert Affairs" this season! Do you think it will be able to maintain its intensity?
Melissa Hayer 2:16 p.m. Me too! I hope it can - this season has been amazing!
JC 2:16 p.m. I'm curious about the CW's new show Beauty and the Beast. Have you gotten a chance to see the new episode? I wonder if any Smallville fans will watch, just because of Kristin Kreuk's presence on the show.
Melissa Hayer 2:20 p.m. I've seen the premiere episode for "Beauty and the Beast" and I enjoyed it. I think it will definitely attract Kristin Kreuk/"Smallville" fans. I'll have a story next week on an interview I did with "Beauty and the Beast" star Jay Ryan - so watch the television blog for it: http://blog.newsok.com/television/.
John V. 2:20 p.m. Do you think any shows are doomed at this point? Expect any early cancellations?
Melissa Hayer 2:22 p.m. I've read that "Made in Jersey" has already been cancelled and I think "The Mob Doctor" might be next - although I kind of liked the mix of mafia/medical genres in that show.
Judy 2:23 p.m. Know you are a "Dexter" fan and was worried about how last season ended. How do you feel about the new season?
Tiffany 2:23 p.m. Or late cancellations..RIP "The Secret Circle."
Melissa Hayer 2:24 p.m. Yes, I love"Dexter" - and even though I wasn't happy with last season's finale, it has redeemed itself in the first few episodes this year - the writing and Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter have kept me a fan for sure!
Judy 2:25 p.m. What are the best sitcoms this season? Anything stand out?
Melissa Hayer 2:26 p.m. "Go On" is my favorite, but "Ben and Kate" and "The Mindy Project" have potential.
Bev P. 2:27 p.m. We've had reality shows, Vampire shows, cop/crime shows, family sitcoms .... What kind of show do you think would be different and a real winner for the networks to try next -- Underwater zombies? No, wait, there's already a zombie show.
Melissa Hayer 2:29 p.m. Well, in my opinion, there can never be too many vampire shows, but the police procedurals are getting a little old. Unless they have a twist like "Grimm" - another one of my favorites - or "Elementary."
Tiffany 2:31 p.m. RE: Bev P. - Maybe the next big show will be "The Swimming Dead."
Guest 2:36 p.m. When does Justified come back on?
Melissa Hayer 2:36 p.m. Haven't seen a return date yet.
Mary 2:38 p.m. My daughters got me hooked on Pretty Little Liars! It has so many twists and turns. I'm always torn. I want everything to be solved and explained ... but I want the show to continue. Any word when the next season starts?
Melissa Hayer 2:39 p.m. Mid-2013
JC 2:39 p.m. How realistic do you think The Newsroom is?
Melissa Hayer 2:41 p.m. I think it's more idealistic than realistic, but it's one of the shows I like to watch.
Judy 2:42 p.m. What did you think of "SNL" making fun of "Go On"? : )
Melissa Hayer 2:43 p.m. I believe they were actually poking fun at Ryan Lochte instead of "Go On."
Judy 2:44 p.m. Of the actors and actresses you've interviewed, who have been your favorites? Any of them surprised you?
Melissa Hayer 2:49 p.m. Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester of "Strike Back," Kevin Costner, Noah Wyle, Christopher Gorham, Jason Ritter, Lauren Velez of "Dexter" are all super-nice and great to talk to, and rate at the top of my list, but 99% of the actors and actresses I've interviewed have been wonderful.
JC 2:49 p.m. There are so many shows with a supernatural twist on television right now. Do you think those types of shows correspond with the economy and people wanting to escape reality? In the 90s, when the economy was better, you saw lots of shows that were pretty real -- 7th Heaven, Dawson's Creek, Degrassi, Felicity, Freaks and Geeks, My So-Called Life. Now there are so many vampire/werewolf/zombie shows, it's hard to keep up.
Melissa Hayer 2:51 p.m. Yes, I definitely think so. A great escape is hard to find.
Melissa Hayer 2:53 p.m. Sorry, but I'm going to have to wrap up in a few minutes, so send in your questions or comments quickly, or send me an email at mhayer@opubco.com and/or check out The Oklahoman's television blog at http://blog.newsok.com/television/.

Also, I will be hosting another online TV chat at 8 p.m. Sunday during AMC's season premiere of "The Walking Dead" - so please join in "Walking Dead" fans!
Tiffany 3:00 p.m. Great questions everyone. I can't wait for the Walking Dead watch party! See you all Sunday.
