Health check set at YMCA
The YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City is partnering with OU Physicians to provide free health screenings to the community. Screenings will begin in October and continue throughout the next few months. Participants can be screened at no cost for total cholesterol, glucose level, body composition (total body fat and body mass index) and blood pressure/resting pulse. Dr. Jenny Le, a board-certified family medicine physician with OU Physicians at Edmond, will be available to answer questions from participants at each of the screenings. Screenings will be from 8 to 10 a.m. on: Friday at Rockwell Plaza YMCA at 8300 Glade Ave.; Oct. 26 at Earlywine Park YMCA, 11801 S May Ave.; Nov. 2 at Guthrie YMCA, 114 E Oklahoma Ave. in Guthrie; Nov. 9 at Chickasha Area YMCA, 725 W Chickasha Ave. in Chickasha; Nov. 16 at Midwest City YMCA at 2817 N Woodcrest Dr. in Midwest City; Nov. 30 at Edmond YMCA at 1220 S. Rankin St. in Edmond; Dec. 7 at Bethany YMCA at 3400 N. Mueller Ave. in Bethany; and Dec. 14 at North Side YMCA at 10000 N Penn Ave. Each screening is offered at no cost and is available to adults, age 18 and older, regardless of Y membership.
Learn about Alzheimer's
Elderversity is offering its first public class on Alzheimer's prevention at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at Metro Tech, 1900 Springlake Drive. The class will explain new habits that can be practiced to prevent or delay the onset of Alzheimer's or dementia. The class will be 90 minutes and is partially based on the works of Dr. Gary Small, director of the Center on Aging at UCLA.
