NORMAN — Seven weeks of college football remain, and three descriptions have been used for this year's Oklahoma football team: a national championship team, a rebuilding team and a to-be-determined team.

Some fans thought the preseason No. 4 ranking was too low. Others thought it was too high.

After losing to Kansas State on Sept. 22, the Sooner Nation wondered which Landry Jones would show up at the next game. Would he be the Landry Jones who is hot? Or, would he be the Landry Jones who is cold?

And there was so much worry about OU receivers. Who would catch Jones' passes?

How could the offensive and defensive lines remain strong with players lost to injury or the NFL?

Boy, how the national perception of OU has changed from Week 1. Now it's Week 7, and the Sooners have gone from BCS bowl contenders, to pretenders and back to contenders.

The national media is saying things such as “best in the conference.” They're looking at the loss to Kansas State in a different light. After all, there was a huge 14-point swing off an interception and fumble during that game on Owen Field.

And it seems like many have rejoined the Landry Jones Fan Club after he threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns Saturday during a 63-21 rout of Texas. Suddenly, few are asking where Jones lost his confidence and whether he will find it before the next game. Nope, that has been pushed under the September rug.

Receiver Justin Brown has become a household name in a week. Fresno State transfer Jalen Saunders was ruled eligible by the NCAA last week. Trey Millard had five catches for 119 yards and a TD vs. the Longhorns. Broadcasters are saying the Sooners are deep in pass catchers.
