Quarterback J.W. Walsh's knee injury wasn't the only season-ender revealed during Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy's Sunday evening teleconference, as senior Justin Horton is also done for the year after an apparent leg injury sustained Saturday against Iowa State.
Horton was hurt on his second catch of the day, a 24-yard leaping grab on the Cowboys' first offensive play of the third quarter.
“He hurt it about four steps before he made the catch,” Gundy said. “And he still made the catch, and it was up and over his head. Pretty neat deal. I thought it happened on the way down. It happened probably three or four steps before (the catch).”
Horton, a redshirt senior who entered Saturday with just one catch this season, tallied two catches for 58 yards against the Cyclones in one of his best performances as a Cowboy. He finishes his career with 12 catches for 209 yards.
GUNDY CONTINUES TO PRAISE DEFENSIVE EFFORT AGAINST IOWA STATE
If the defense continues to perform the way it did Saturday against ISU — where it made 11 consecutive stops after the first quarter — OSU will have a chance to win every game the rest of the way, Gundy said.
Gundy singled out several Cowboys who played well, including defensive tackle Calvin Barnett, defensive ends Cooper Bassett and Ryan Robinson, linebackers Lyndell Johnson and Shaun Lewis, cornerback Brodrick Brown and safety Daytawion Lowe.
