OU Trombone Choir to perform Halloween concert
NORMAN — Irv Wagner and the University of Oklahoma Trombone Choir will present a Halloween concert at 8 p.m. Oct. 31 in Sharp Hall at the Catlett Music Center, 500 W Boyd.
The free concert will feature musical compositions associated with Halloween, said Wagner, David Ross Boyd and Regents Professor of Music.
The sound of the trombone was historically associated with death and dying as well as heaven and hell in early times, Wagner said. The choir will perform several works around that theme, including one by Beethoven that he wrote for his own funeral.
Another special selection will be a new arrangement of “Phantom of the Opera.”
Audience members are encouraged to wear costumes and will be rewarded with candy and other prizes, Wagner said.
The OU Trombone Choir is recognized across the country and the world as a model for such organizations. The group has appeared at major music festivals and has produced two CDs.
