Big 12 football: Baylor defensive coordinator Phil Bennett on the hot seat

Baylor defensive coordinator Phil Bennett is a well-respected coach. Through stops at Pitt, SMU, Kansas State, OU, TCU, Texas A&M, LSU, Purdue and Iowa State, Bennett has proven he knows football.

But this is getting ridiculous. Baylor has given up 42 points to Louisiana-Monroe, 70 to West Virginia, 49 to TCU and 56 to Texas. Still to come are some of the Big 12's best offenses: OU, Kansas State, Texas Tech and OSU.

The Bears are 3-3 and in danger of not becoming bowl eligible. A victory Saturday at Iowa State is near-mandatory. The Cyclones are not good at quarterback. If Jared Barnett or Steele Jantz dents the Bear defense, there is no hope for Baylor. Bennett's unit must produce more than a few stops.
