The Oklahoman endorsement: Mitt Romney is the best choice for America

Mitt Romney is a self-made man running for president against an incumbent who rejects the notion that society flourishes when government gets out of the way. From health care to regulation to energy policy to taxation — in so many areas — Barack Obama believes that government must dominate our lives and redistribute our incomes.

Obama was a poor choice for president in 2008. He's an even worse choice now. Oklahomans solidly rejected Obama four years ago. They knew what the people in too many other states apparently did not — that this man is simply not qualified to hold such a high office. He has inferior business skills and leadership qualities, little appreciation for the sacrifices that the successful make and an anemic respect for America's starring role on the world stage.

Romney is demonized as being a son of privilege. Yet the man Romney has become is of his own making. His decency is his own. His leadership qualities are his own. His management skills are his own. He built those! And he can rebuild the U.S. economy.

Romney overcame a strong challenge in the Republican primaries. Now he goes before all voters as America's best hope to create jobs, cut deficit spending, reduce the national debt, restore American exceptionalism, reform entitlements and achieve North American energy independence.

In the accompanying graphic we outline our views of the two candidates in seven issue areas. In each of these, as well as in many others, Mitt Romney has made the better case to be president.
