Regents pick Flintco to oversee construction of new dorm for Oklahoma State University

Oklahoma State University is one step closer to beginning work on a new dormitory.

The Board of Regents for Oklahoma State University and the A&M Colleges held its monthly meeting Friday at Connors State College, in Muskogee.

During the meeting, the board selected Tulsa-based firm Flintco to serve as the university's construction manager for the design and construction of a new residence hall.

The building will be located in the northwest corner of the OSU campus in Stillwater along Hall of Fame Avenue.

OSU officials expect the building to house 800 to 900 students.

It will replace Kerr-Drummond Hall, a 46-year-old, 1,100-bed dormitory that is scheduled for demolition.

University officials have said they don't plan to tear down Kerr-Drummond until 2015 or later to allow time for the construction of the new dormitory.

After a review, OSU officials determined the 12-story, two-tower building had outlasted its 40-year life plan.

University officials said maintaining the building would require overhauling all of its major systems, including plumbing, heating and air conditioning.
