Norman North sophomore defensive lineman Stelen Covel, the son of country music star Toby Keith, was one of four state players selected for the 2013 Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl.
The fifth annual game will be played Jan. 6 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The other players selected were Heritage Hall lineman Luther Harris and running back/linebacker Terrel Love and Jenks linebacker Austin Quillen. All three are freshmen.
The four will play for the USA Under-15 team against a team from Canada. The team is coached by former Oklahoma assistant David White.
The four will be presented with their jerseys Saturday at Keith's restaurant in Bricktown during halftime of the Oklahoma-Iowa State game.
DOUGLASS' HARRIS COMMITS
Douglass defensive back Terry Harris verbally committed to Morgan State, an FCS program in Baltimore. Harris received an offer from the school about a month ago and gave his commitment Wednesday.
Harris, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound safety, has been a three-year starter for the Trojans. This year, he has 49 tackles and two interceptions, and also plays fullback.
EDMOND PLAYOFF SITUATION SET
With both the Edmond Santa Fe and Edmond North football teams earning first-round home playoff games next week, the Edmond school district found itself with a decision to make, since all home games are played at Central Oklahoma’s Wantland Stadium.
Mike Nunley, the Edmond district athletic director, said Edmond North will host its game on Thursday night, and Edmond Santa Fe would play on Friday. Central Oklahoma plays Saturday against Northeastern State.
OCSAA PLAYOFFS SET
The Oklahoma Christian Schools Athletic Association football playoffs begin Friday.
In the OCSAA Class 3A playoffs, Wright Christian will play at the OKC Patriots, and Windsor Hills will play at Destiny Christian.
Destiny Christian (7-3) beat Windsor Hills 58-24 in early October.
In Class 2A, Boulevard Christian will play at Life Christian, and Southwest Christian will play at Cookson Hills.
All semifinal games will be played at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The OCSAA championship games will be played Friday, Nov. 9, at Putnam City West. The 2A game will kick off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the 3A game at 8.
