NORMAN — Oklahoma's Whitney Hand stretched out her right hand and swatted the ball, dribbled and ran away from Oklahoma Christian with the basketball.
The senior guard did that move multiple times in the first half of the Sooners' 118-53 victory, finishing with four steals to lead the team.
With a little over 16 minutes left in the game, Portia Durrett stole the ball and began to dribble back toward Oklahoma's basket. She passed the ball to Maddie Manning, who got it stolen from her for the second turnover in nine seconds.
The game was full of back-to-back turnovers and littered with steals and drops.
At the half, Oklahoma Christian led Oklahoma in turnovers 20-12.
Oklahoma ended the exhibition with 22 turnovers. Oklahoma Christian ended with 32.
CLOMAN'S BACK FORCES HER TO STOP PLAYING
Lyndsey Cloman's basketball career is over. The back injury that caused the OU junior to miss the 2010-2011 postseason is forcing her to stop playing basketball.
"Her back issue continues to worsen," Oklahoma coach Sherri Coale said. "She will not be playing. For Lyndsey's future, she's 21 years old and she's got a bad back, but we'd like her to live a healthy life. It was a very tough decision for Lyndsey but probably the right one."
Cloman, who missed all of the 2011-12 season after suffering an ACL injury in the preseason, will still be around the program and plans to travel with the team.
NEWCOMERS CHIP IN
Newcomers Nicole Kornet, Maddie Manning and Portia Durrett all played Thursday.
Kornet finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and had three steals. Manning had nine points and eight rebounds.
Durrett, a junior transfer from Walters State (Tenn.), had the most minutes of the newcomers with 25. She scored 16 points and added six rebounds and three steals.
THE ROYAL JONES FAMILY
During a timeout late in the first half, a video played featuring clips of things the Sooners did during the offseason.
The video superimposed the athletes' heads onto others' bodies. It took fans through a summer vacation at the beach, snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia on their summer trip and running onto the court before the exhibition game.
The clip that got the loudest cheers, though, was one that superimposed the faces of Oklahoma senior Whitney Hand and her husband, Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones, onto the bodies of Prince William and Kate Middleton on their wedding day.
