Freedom Run

The inaugural Veterans Day Freedom Run, sponsored by the Midwest City Convention and Visitors Bureau and the nonprofit Warriors For Freedom, is scheduled for Nov. 12. After the run, the city of Midwest City and the Midwest City Chamber of Commerce will host Midwest City's first Veterans Day Parade.

Midwest City veterans memorial gets closer to groundbreaking
11/05/2012 Midwest City leaders have released drawings of a memorial to be built in Joe B. Barnes Regional Park.

The 5k run will help raise funds and awareness for veteran issues. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Warriors For Freedom Foundation.

The sanctioned 5k run begins at 7:30 a.m., with registration at 6 a.m. The run starts on Century Boulevard and winds through Joe B. Barnes Regional Park.

A veteran spirit award will be given to the runner dressed in the most patriotic attire. The preregistration fee, due by 4 p.m. Friday, is $25. Registration on the day of the event is $30. Early registration may be done by mail or online at www.visitmidwestcity.com.

Parade

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Joe B. Barnes Regional Park.

Organizers are expecting about 100 entries.
