Ralph Fridgen's alma mater fired him after 10 seasons in which his record was 75-50. That .600 winning percentage put Fridgen in an exclusive club of Maryland coaches – Bear Bryant, Jim Tatum, Jerry Claiborne and Bobby Ross.

Fridgen went 2-10 in 2009 to apparently seal his fate, even after a 9-4 record in 2010.

Maryland hired away Edsall from Connecticut, but the Terrapins are 6-16 under Edsall, including a 3-11 ACC record. The Terrapins have been beset by player defections, injuries and waning fan attendance.

Now Maryland, 4-6, closes the season at home against Florida State, then at North Carolina. A 4-8 season would foster little optimism about Maryland's future with Edsall.
