Book review: 'Profiles in Patriotic Leadership' by Greg Slavonic
In “Profiles in Patriotic Leadership” (Fortis Publishing , $8.95 paperback, $2.99 Kindle), retired U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Greg Slavonic has gathered an inspiring collection of nine essays from former military officers and enlisted men who proudly served in the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Marine Corps.
This book could seen as a sequel to “Leadership in Action: Principles Forged in the Crucible of Military Service Can Lead Corporate America Back to the Top,” published in 2010. The message is crystal clear throughout Slavonic's latest book.
These profiles in patriotic leadership should become the cornerstone of corporate leadership in America. This author successfully presents the argument that the lessons learned while leading men and women in the military are crucial to the need for leadership in our civilian world.
Each of these contributors has seen great leaders who possessed the ever-important “C” factor in military life: character, courage, competence, conviction and commitment. Many of these writers present a clarion call for business leaders to incorporate the qualities of tried-and-proven military leadership.
They argue that the moral failures evident in our recent banking industry failures, Wall Street scandals and corporate misdeeds are clear evidence that leadership principles are not being taught to those who never served in our armed forces.
