NORMAN — Blake Bell's first career road start could be inside the defending national champion's home.

Bell, the heir apparent to Landry Jones as Oklahoma's starting quarterback, and the Sooners open the 2013 football season with three home games and a bye week before a Sept. 28 game at Notre Dame, which is currently unbeaten and ranked No. 1 in the nation.

Here are five other interesting elements of the Sooners' 2013 football schedule, which was released Tuesday by the Big 12 Conference.

EARLY WEST VIRGINIA VISIT

Fans who enjoyed Oklahoma's shoot-out victory at West Virginia last weekend won't have to wait long into the 2013 season for a rematch.

The Mountaineers make their first trip to Norman since 1982, and their first ever as a conference foe. Fortunately for OU, Tavon Austin and Geno Smith are seniors this year.

EASY ON THE BYES

The Sooners are off Sept. 21, Nov. 2 and Nov. 30 next season — each one week before trips to Notre Dame, Baylor and Oklahoma State, respectively.

The byes add much balance to the schedule than the marathon OU has experienced in 2012.

OU's last bye this season came the weekend of Sept. 29, a week after their third game of the season — a 24-19 home loss to Kansas State.

JACKSON RETURNS TO NORMAN

Receiver Kameel Jackson — who played some as a true freshman last season, was indefinitely suspended and then booted from the team in August — transferred to Louisiana-Monroe, which travels to Norman on Aug. 31 for both team's season opener.
