So now we're treated to a Congress and a president arguing over whom to tax most and who gets it first. We're supposed to take these people seriously when in fact if there was a money fairy and it landed square in the middle of a joint session of Congress with the president present, and we announced that the United States was given $17 trillion free and clear plus a 50 percent increase in tax revenue, they probably still wouldn't pay off the national debt. Most likely they wouldn't be able to make a balanced budget even then. Not even for the first year.
