Singer/songwriter Sam Baker will perform Dec. 2 at the Santa Fe Depot as part of the Performing Arts Studio's Winter Wind concert series. Tickets are $20 for the 7 p.m. performance.

Baker grew up in Itasca, Texas, a small prairie town southwest of Dallas. His father was an avid country blues fan, and his mother was a church organist who loved Broadway show tunes.

On his website, Baker says the defining moment in his life was in 1986 when he was on a train to Machu Picchu in Peru and a terrorist bomb exploded. Baker was seriously injured, losing most of his hearing and suffering injuries to his left arm and hand.

Baker had 18 corrective surgeries over the next decade and says the resultant physical and emotional trauma helped form his view of the world and heavily influenced his musical style.

Baker says he has retained an amazingly positive outlook on life and tries to reflect that in his music.

Tickets are available at www.TicketStorm.com or at the Santa Fe Depot, 200 S Jones Ave. For more information, call 307-9320.
