Fire more likely than rain as dry air mass brings warm temperatures, gusty winds to central Oklahoma
Weather forecasters say elevated fire dangers likely to persist Saturday through Monday, with warm winds and zero chance of rain through at least next week.
Prayers for rain will likely not be answered today or anything this week.
A high pressure line will deposit a very dry, stable air mass over Oklahoma that will fend of showers and storms through at least next Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Norman.
Gusty winds and warmer temperatures combined with ongoing drought make for an elevated fire danger through Monday, according to the service.
Forecast for Saturday in central Oklahoma calls for sunshine, a high of 60 degrees and wind gusts as high as 23 mph. Tonight will be clear with a low of around 39 degrees, according to the service.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 69. South southwest wind 8 to 14 mph becoming east southeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.
Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 41. East northeast wind 3 to 7 mph.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 53. North wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph.
Monday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 28.
Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 53.
Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 31.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 62.
Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 38.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 67.
Thursday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 48.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 67.
