Class 4A football notebook: Clinton, Anadarko grind it out

With Clinton sophomore Marquiz Simpkins and Anadarko junior R.J. Sink running the ball as well as they did, that was no surprise.

For the most part, though, the teams relied on short-yardage plays that turned into long drives in Clinton's 21-14 win.

Five drives lasted for 10 or more plays, three leading to touchdowns.

Anadarko started the game with a 15-play, 80-yard touchdown drive that lasted more than seven minutes.

Clinton did something similar to start the second half, with a 12-play drive that took up more than half of the third quarter before the possession ended with a turnover on downs.

The Red Tornadoes ate up another six minutes on its second drive of the half, this on taking 14 plays and 87 yards and ending with a touchdown.

MITCHELL COMES UP BIG IN THE END

Clinton junior defensive back Devon Mitchell played a big part in Anadarko's final drive to try to tie it.

On first down from the 37, Anadarko's Kellum Gray slipped behind Mitchell and quarterback Brandon Pollard put the ball right in Gray's hands, but the potential game-tying pass was dropped.
